Jordan TRC Issues New Type Approval Rules 2025

Highlights / Changes: 

  • - New 2025 Instructions govern approval for entry, use, retention, and trade of telecom and terminal equipment in Jordan.
  • - Introduces clear classifications: wired, radio, terminal, and infrastructure equipment.
  • - Defines Type Approval (for model compliance) and Entry Approval (for import authorization).
  • - Only registered companies or licensed agents may apply for approvals.
  • - Validity of type approval: 2 years, renewable 3 months before expiry.
  • -  Local authorized representatives (companies approved to act on behalf of foreign entities) have a 1-year validity period for their authorization. 
  • - Temporary entry allowed for up to 6 months; may be extended in special cases.
  • - Adds clear provisions for research and development imports, private use, and refurbished/remanufactured equipment.
  • - Requires compliance with ETSI or FCC standards and ILAC-accredited testing reports.
  • - Exemptions list expanded (e.g., Bluetooth devices, wired telephones, short-range toys).
  • - All previous type approval instructions (2005–2007) are repealed.

For Existing Licensees: 

  • - For local companies must renew type approvals every 1 year.
  • - Any changes to model, manufacturer, or standards require a new approval.
  • - Public telecom operators may import infrastructure equipment after TRC approval.

For New Applicants: 

  • - Must provide DoC, test reports, IMEI registration (if applicable), and photos.
  • - Applications must be completed within one month of TRC notification if documents are missing.

NICTA Update on Type Approval Certificate Validity

Papua New Guinea’s National Information and Communications Technology Authority (NICTA) has updated its type approval process. Certificates issued through the new Type Approval Online System (TAOS) from 2025 will now have a standardized three-year validity. Certificates issued between 2022 and 2025 have been reissued to align with this validity period, while certificates issued before 2022 are considered expired and require renewal through a formal application.
