The updated RSS-247 standard sets out the certification requirements for Digital Transmission Systems (DTS), Frequency Hopping Systems (FHS), and Licence-Exempt Local Area Network (LE-LAN) devices. These devices operate within the 902-928 MHz, 2400-2483.5 MHz, 5150-5350 MHz, and 5470-5895 MHz frequency bands.

A key change in Issue 4 is the removal of operational restrictions for devices in the 5600-5650 MHz frequency range. The new issue also introduces specific requirements to differentiate hybrid systems from simple combinations of FHS and DTS equipment. Additionally, there are updated instructions and clarifications for LE-LAN devices, particularly those operating in the 5150-5250 MHz and 5250-5350 MHz bands.

The transition period for the new standard extends for six months, until January 24, 2026. During this time, certification applications can be submitted under either Issue 3 or Issue 4. After this period, all new devices manufactured, imported, or sold in Canada must comply with the requirements of RSS-247 Issue 4.
