As a general rule, the notice confirms that all ICT networks and services operating in the Cayman Islands require a licence. The notice also outlines the applicable licence categories, including network licences, service licences, transmitter licences, spectrum assignments, class licences, and experimental or temporary licences.
Annex 2: Permitted SRD frequency bands
A key element of the notice is Annex 2, which specifies the permitted frequency bands and operating limits for Short-Range Devices (SRDs), aligned with FCC and ETSI standards. Covered technologies include Wi-Fi, LPWAN, RFID, wireless audio, medical devices, radar applications, and remote controls.
Notably:
The 6 GHz band (5925–6425 MHz) is permitted for Wi-Fi 6E, exclusively for Low Power Indoor (LPI) and Very Low Power (VLP) devices, with no authorization for standard-power or outdoor use.
The 865.5–867.6 MHz band is enabled for RFID, subject to defined power limits and channelization conditions.
While the notice does not modify the local equipment homologation or type approval scheme, it reinforces that radio equipment operating without an individual licence must be certified under recognized international standards and operate strictly within the parameters defined in Annex 2.
