The National Telecom Regulatory Authority (NTRA) in Egypt has issued new rules impacting mobile device imports. Beginning October 1, 2025, phones and equipment that operate solely on 3G technology will no longer be eligible for type approval or import.

This measure does not affect devices with broader compatibility. Equipment that supports 2G only, or multi-generation combinations such as 2G/3G/4G, 2G/3G/4G/5G, or 3G/4G/5G, can still be imported and approved.

The decision reflects Egypt’s strategy to phase out outdated 3G-only technology while continuing to allow 2G devices, which are often used for basic connectivity, alongside modern multi-generation devices.
