Growing Urban Forests in Nepal
Our support for Pipal Tree’s April 2026 Big Give Earth Raise campaign is helping Lily’s Leaves accelerate the creation of rapid-growth urban forests across Nepal’s Kathmandu Valley.
Our support for Pipal Tree’s April 2026 Big Give Earth Raise campaign is helping Lily’s Leaves accelerate the creation of rapid-growth urban forests across Nepal’s Kathmandu Valley.

Lily’s Leaves is a women-led social enterprise, and its Urban Nature Programme is led by young deaf women who are restoring neglected public land using the Miyawaki Method, creating dense forests of native species that can grow rapidly and provide valuable urban habitat.
Since 2023, the programme has established eight urban forests, with two more currently under development. Work is now progressing at Pulchowk Engineering Campus, where the new forest will also provide opportunities for research into urban forestry, and at a second site beside the Bagmati River.  The programme is supported by two nurseries established in 2025, where native trees are grown from seed.

We’re delighted that Eleos’s support is contributing to this innovative work — combining urban reforestation, biodiversity, skills development and community resilience in a country increasingly affected by climate impacts.  We look forward to seeing these young forests grow and to following Lily’s Leaves as the programme develops.
