Understanding Type Approval Requirements

Philippines - NTC is the regulatory authority responsible for overseeing and certifying telecommunications equipment in the country. NTC regulates all equipment with RF, wireless or telecom capabilities.

There are three primary certification categories issued by National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) in the Philippines: RCE, CPE, and GEC

RCE or Radio Communications Equipment: 
The certification under this category applies to devices that operate wirelessly but don’t connect directly to public telecommunications networks.

Example products applicable for approval under RCE are: Keyless transmitters for cars, Bluetooth headsets, wireless mouse and keyboards and RFID devices.

CPE or Customer Premise Equipment: 
This category covers devices installed at homes or businesses that connect to telecom networks.

Example products applicable for approval under CPE are: Wired/wireless routers, Fax Machines, Printers

GEC or Grant of Equipment Conformity: The certification under this category is for devices that have combine features of RCE and CPE.

Example products applicable for approval under CPE are: Smartphones, Tablets that use Mobile data and Wi-Fi, wireless POS terminals

NTC Approval process usually takes up to 5 weeks and is based on a paperwork only review with no local testing required.

Labelling Requirements

Only CPE and GEC approved products requires NTC labelling

For RCE approved products, it is voluntary and depend on manufacturers if they want to place labels on their products.
