The National Telecommunications Commission (CONATEL) of Honduras has launched a public consultation on a draft resolution to amend the National Frequency Allocation Plan (PNAF). The consultation will remain open from 27 July to 7 August 2026, allowing interested stakeholders to submit comments before the regulation is formally adopted.
The proposed amendments aim to modernize spectrum management and further align Honduras' regulatory framework with International Telecommunication Union (ITU) recommendations and current international regulatory trends.
The main proposed changes include:
- Private IMT Networks: The 2500–2690 MHz band would be enabled for the deployment of private LTE and 5G networks intended for industrial facilities, campuses, and other private-use environments.
- Mobile Satellite Service (MSS): New frequency allocations would be introduced in the 1990–2010 MHz and 2180–2200 MHz bands, supporting future deployments of mobile satellite services.
- Expansion of Spectrum for Wi-Fi: The permitted operating range for WAS/RLAN systems would be extended from 5925–6425 MHz to 5925–7125 MHz, enabling the full 6 GHz band for technologies such as Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7.
- Modernization for NGSO Satellite Systems: More flexible regulatory criteria would be adopted for non-geostationary satellite orbit (NGSO) constellations, based on the performance-based approach recently introduced by the U.S. FCC.
From a type approval perspective, the draft resolution does not modify the certification procedures or documentary requirements for telecommunications equipment. However, the expansion of available frequency bands and the introduction of new services may facilitate the future approval of products operating under these updated regulatory frameworks.
The resolution will enter into force once it is approved by CONATEL and published in the Official Gazette (La Gaceta).
