Thailand’s telecommunications regulator, the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC), has launched a new public consultation covering five draft announcements. These proposals are aimed at modernizing the regulatory framework for radio communication and radar technologies to better align with international standards and emerging technical trends.

Key Areas of Focus
The draft regulations address several critical technical areas that will impact manufacturers of wireless devices:
  • Spectrum Allocation: Specific focus is placed on devices operating in the 57–64 GHz spectrum, covering high-speed wireless communication and next-generation radar applications.
  • Automotive and Transportation Radar: Updated technical standards are proposed for radar systems used in land transportation and traffic management, supporting the growth of intelligent transportation systems and automotive safety technologies.
  • Licensing and Technical Standards: The proposals include new criteria for frequency use and licensing conditions for both unrestricted radar applications and general-use radio communication equipment.
  • Frequency Expansion: Discussions include the potential expansion of permitted power levels for radar applications in the 24.05–24.25 GHz band.

Impact on Product Lifecycle
For manufacturers, these proposed changes may influence R&D timelines and supply chain readiness for devices intended for the Thai market. The initiative is designed to provide greater regulatory clarity and encourage innovation while ensuring high levels of technical compliance. Understanding these future requirements now is essential for maintaining market access and ensuring a smooth transition once the rules are finalized.

Consultation Timeline
Stakeholders and interested parties are invited to participate in the feedback process, which is scheduled as follows:
  • Feedback Period: From 04 May 2026 until 03 July 2026.
  • Public Hearing: A hearing is scheduled for 20 May 2026 to discuss the draft announcements in detail.

Manufacturers are encouraged to review how these drafts may affect their current and future product portfolios. For a deeper analysis of how these technical standards may impact your specific devices, please contact Eleos Compliance.
