The Office of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission (NBTC) of Thailand has initiated a public consultation regarding significant proposed updates to its health safety standards for radio communication equipment. These revisions are designed to align national regulations with the latest international guidelines set by the International Commission on Non-Ionizing Radiation Protection (ICNIRP) from 2020.

Key proposals include:
  • Expanded Frequency Range: Updating the regulated frequency spectrum from 9 kHz – 300 GHz to 8.3 kHz – 300 GHz, incorporating revised exposure limits and measurement methodologies.
  • Device Categorization: Maintaining the three-tier classification system for radio equipment based on distance to the human body during normal operation (Type 1, Type 2, and Type 3 devices).
  • Updated Compliance and Reporting: Revised requirements for equipment assessment, mandatory compliance declarations, and consumer-facing safety labeling.

Manufacturers and stakeholders should evaluate how these changes may impact upcoming product certification and existing conformity assessment procedures. View Full Regulatory Update.

The NBTC is currently accepting feedback on these proposals until the deadline of 14 September 2026. Ensuring your compliance strategy is prepared for these technical shifts is critical for continued market access in Thailand.
