The Autoridad de Regulación y Fiscalización de Telecomunicaciones y Transportes (ATT) in Bolivia has released a revised list of telecommunications equipment that must undergo the mandatory homologation process before being marketed or operated in the country. This update, finalized on 02 January 2025, ensures that the latest wireless and network technologies are covered under local regulatory frameworks.

The updated list categorizes equipment based on technical function and use cases, impacting a broad spectrum of manufacturers. Key equipment categories include:

  • Telephony Equipment: Mobile smartphones, fixed wireless devices, and satellite telephones.
  • Broadcasting Technology: VHF/UHF transmitters, FM/AM and shortwave transmitters, and Digital TV equipment utilizing the ISDB-Tb standard.
  • Satellite Terminals: Including VSAT, LEO, and MEO constellation terminals, alongside LNB and BUC converters.
  • Networking and Optical Hardware: Wired and wireless routers, Optical Network Terminals (ONT), and high-capacity multiplexers (WDM/DWDM).
  • Specialized Transceivers: Aeronautical, maritime, and surveillance radar systems, as well as microwave radio links.

Important to note that devices that make use of free use bands such as 2.4GHz, 5GHz, Wi-Fi and also Bluetooth devices that are not considered as forming part of a telecommuncations network are no longer subject to the homologation requirements in Bolivia.

Amendment – 06 February 2026

Recent clarification efforts with the regulator have shown that information currently coming from ATT is scattered and inconsistent, with operational guidance being shared ahead of formal regulatory publication.
Local confirmation indicates that the updated scope has not yet been issued through an official regulatory resolution. Until this occurs, the previous homologation list and procedures remain legally in force, meaning that equipment can still be homologated under the existing framework.
The official resolution formalizing the new scope is expected to be issued in approximately two months.
