Three MTSFB technical codes for public consultation

MTSFB or The Malaysian Technical Standards Forum Bhd has officially opened to public consultations three technical codes starting this 10th of October 2025 and will end on 9th of November 2025. These covers Free Space Optics – Specifications, Amateur Radio Equipment – Specifications and Satellite Earth Station Terminal – Specifications.


Free Space Optics – Specifications


Applies to all terrestrial FSO communication systems that use line-of-sight optical technology to provide a point-to-point communication link, operating at wavelengths of 850 nm (352.9412 THz), or 1550 nm (193.5484 THz).

Technical Requirement:

  • Wavelength (nm): 1550

  • Frequency (THz): 193.548 4

 

  • Wavelength (nm): 850

  • Frequency (THz): 352.941 2


Both wavelengths will have a Max output power of 650mW with test reference to IEC 60825-1 or ANSI Z136.2

Amateur Radio Equipment – Specifications


This covers the minimum technical requirements for amateur radio equipment intended for operation within the frequency bands allocated to the Amateur Service and Amateur-Satellite Service.

Radio Frequency requirements

  • Low Frequency (LF) in MHz: 0.1 - 1.8 
  • Medium Frequency (MF) in MHz: 1.8 – 2.0
  • High Frequency (HF) in MHz: 2.0 – 30.0

Type of Equipment: Mobile, base station and others
Maximum transmitter output power: 2 kW

 

  • Very High Frequency (VHF) in MHz: 50.0 - 54.0

Maximum transmitter output power for Handheld: 5 W
Maximum transmitter output power for Mobile, base station and others: 2 kW

 

  • VHF in MHz: 136.0 - 174.0
  • Ultra High Frequency (UHF) in MHz: 400 – 450

Maximum transmitter output power for Handheld: 5 W
Maximum transmitter output power for Mobile: 80 W
Maximum transmitter output power for Base station and others: 100 W

 

  • UHF in MHz: 1240 – 1300, 2400 – 2450

Maximum transmitter output power for Handheld: 5 W
Maximum transmitter output power for Mobile, base station and others: 300 W

 

  • Super High Frequency (SHF) in MHz: 3300 – 3400, 5650 - 5850, 10000 – 10500, 24000 – 24250

Maximum transmitter output power for Mobile, base station and others: 100 W


  • Extra High Frequency (EHF) in MHz: 47000 – 47200, 76000 – 77500, 77500 – 81500, 122250 – 123000, 134000 – 141000, 241000 - 250000

Maximum transmitter output power for Mobile, base station and others: 50 W

Satellite Earth Station Terminal – Specifications


This covers fixed and portable Satellite Earth Station Terminals (SESTs) operating within frequency bands allocated for satellite services in Malaysia. It also covers but not limited to Hub stations, gateway stations, Very Small Aperture Terminals (VSAT) and other user terminals

CONATEL, through the SIGESTEL platform, has updated the validity framework for type approval certificates in Venezuela. While certificates issued during the initial SIGESTEL implementation phase were standardized to a one-year validity period, newly issued certificates are now being granted with indefinite validity.
