- - January 2025: 864 stations shut in Al Wusta and Dhofar, with an additional 1,835 across other regions.
- - By Q2 2025: Final 1,699 stations deactivated in Muscat, with minor exceptions near Muscat International Airport.
Impact and Benefits
Over 5,600 stations were upgraded, delivering 99% 4G and 90% 5G coverage nationwide. The shutdown frees up spectrum for next-gen technologies and is projected to save over two million kilowatt-hours annually. Oman joins a select group of countries to fully retire 3G in favor of more advanced mobile connectivity.
