Yemen Type Approval Important Regulatory Update

Yemen’s type approval system is now currently divided between two telecommunications authorities, each responsible for issuing type approval certificates within its respective jurisdiction.

The Ministry of Telecommunications under the Sana’a administration continues to issue Sana’a Type Approval Certificates, which remain valid for products intended for Sana’a-controlled areas. These certificates are issued through the existing platform, though issuance timing remains variable.

At the same time, the Aden-based Ministry of Telecommunications (internationally recognized government) has formally launched its own type approval scheme and has begun issuing Aden Type Approval Certificates for Aden-controlled regions. This represents a new certification pathway for Yemen and is expected to become increasingly relevant for imports routed through southern entry points.

Certificates issued by the Sana’a and Aden authorities are not mutually recognized, meaning the appropriate certificate depends on the product’s destination and distribution plan. Products moving across regions or entering through different ports may require additional planning to avoid clearance issues.

Companies with ongoing or upcoming applications should review which certificate type best aligns with their target market and logistics strategy. Further updates will be shared as implementation of the Aden certification framework continues.

In parallel with these structural changes, new requirements related to application submissions have been introduced, which may impact processing timelines if not addressed early.

To minimize clearance issues especially when goods may move by land, sea, or air, or cross internal borders - it is strongly recommended to obtain certificates from both Sana’a and Aden authorities for the same product, where applicable.
