Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) announced the publication of updated regulatory documents on January 16, 2026, affecting wireless communication equipment and services in the 2300 MHz band.
The revised Radio Standards Specification RSS-195, Issue 3, applies to wireless communication service equipment operating in the 2305-2320 MHz and 2345-2360 MHz frequency ranges. This version replaces Issue 2 and expands the scope to include the newly designated frequency bands. A six-month transition period has been established, during which certification applications may reference either Issue 2 or Issue 3. After July 16, 2026, only Issue 3 will be accepted for new certifications under RSS-195.

In parallel, ISED has published Standard Radio System Plan SRSP-516, Issue 2, which supersedes Issue 1. This update outlines revised technical and deployment requirements for Wireless Communication Service (WCS) systems in the same frequency bands. The new issue also introduces provisions related to Active Antenna Systems, clarifying expectations for their use and deployment.
