India Mandates TEC MTCTE Certification for Select Telecom Equipment's

The Government of India, through the Ministry of Communications (Department of Telecommunications), has issued a notification under Section 19 of the Telecommunications Act, 2023 (44 of 2023). The notification, published on February 25, 2025, requires several categories of telecommunication equipment to comply with Mandatory Testing and Certification of Telecom Equipment (MTCTE) standards established by the Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC).

Covered equipment includes: 
  • - Cellular Customer Premises Equipment
  • - Fixed Wireless Phones (Voice & Data / Voice only)
  • - Storage Area Network (SAN) Switches
  • - Fabric Interconnect Switches
  • - Network Security Management Equipment
  • - Network Security Analytics Equipment (Managed & Unmanaged)
  • - Content Security Equipment
  • - DDoS Protection Devices
  • - Malware Analysis Equipment
  • - Web Application Firewalls
  • - NGSO User Terminals
  • - NGSO Integrated Gateways

Key Provisions: 
  • - Standards will apply from August 25, 2025 (180 days after notification).
  • - After this date, non-compliant equipment cannot be imported, sold, distributed, or used in India.
  • - The latest versions of TEC or National Centre for Communication Security standards, including future amendments, will apply automatically once notified.
