On 6th November 2020, IFT opened a public consultation on the use of the 6GHz band in Mexico.

IFT is looking to gather information, opinions, and proposals on the future use of the 5925–7125MHz frequency band (known as the 6 GHz band), considering the latest technological advances and services already operating in the 6GHz band in Mexico.

Alongside the consultation document, IFT included a reference document with information on the current and anticipated uses of the 6GHz band in various countries worldwide. This document includes details regarding global implementation of new technologies using all of or part of the 6GHz band, such as Wi-Fi 6, 5G NR-U and those relating to IMT (international Mobile Telecommunications).

The public consultation will be open until 18th December 2020 and once closed, IFT will review all comments and then determine the different uses that may be given to the 5925-7125MHz band in Mexico. A decision is expected to be published soon after the closure of the public consultation.

Interested parties can submit comments by e-mail to planeacion.espectro@ift.org.mx, or by post to the following address: Oficina de Partes Común del Instituto Located in Insurgentes Sur 1143, Colonia Nochebuena, Demarcación Territorial Benito Juárez, C.P. 03720, México City.
